By Denise LloydCENTRESTAGE FROM PORT ELIZABETH WILL ROCK YOU!!
A spectacular of sound and lighting to dazzle your senses at the new Kalahari Theatre in George
Centrestage from Port Elizabeth will rock the new Kalahari Theatre in George on Friday and Saturday 1 & 2 October with their brilliant and enormously popular tribute to Neil Diamond entitled Hot August Night. DON’T MISS THIS!
AND THE GIRLS FROM STERLING EQ WILL BLOW YOUR SOCKS OFF!!!
Fronted by the velvet voiced André Strydom as the Jazz Singer, the Centrestage All-Star band will succeed in triumphantly combining the worlds of Las Vegas with that of rock, to provide a night steeped in sentimentality as the familiar Neil Diamond hits are given the Centrestage entertainment treatment.
Strydom sprinkles gentle love songs in between up-tempo rockers, as evergreens such as Forever in Blue Jeans, Song Sung Blue, Crackling Rosie, Desiree, Soolaiman, America, Longfellow Serenade, I Am I Said, America, Love on the Rocks, Yesterdays Songs and Sweet Caroline make up but a few of the top hits in the 2 hour show.
Included too is Diamond’s 2009 hit “Pretty Amazing Grace”, which gave Diamond the honour of being the oldest performer to top the US charts – as well as the duet “You Don’t Bring Me Flowers Any More”, which will see Caron Strydom joining her father on stage.
“I am extremely proud of this particular show – nobody does Neil Diamond like Andre Strydom – he is an international quality performer, with not only the voice to compliment Neil Diamond, but also the heart – it is a great privilege to have him performing in our Centrestage stable” says enthusiastic Centrestage owner, Gary Hemmings
The All-Star Band also take individual turns to strut their stuff, with Gino Fabbri having fun on the Diamond-penned I’m A Believer, Kanya Matomela on Beautiful Noise, while Alan Kozak takes Centrestage with Girl You’ll Be A Woman Soon, Stargazer and Robert E Lee. Donna Africa shows her show-stopping calibre on the Diamond hit “I Who Have Nothing”.
Bookings are through Computicket or at the Theatre. Tickets are R110 each.

Langeberg Mall Centre manager, Wendy Bezuidenhout hands over a cheque for R10 000 to Hamish Cairns of the Garden Route Casino as part of their contribution to the Miss Garden Route & Klein Karoo project to raise funds for four Safe Houses for battered women and children in the Southern Cape.
“We have booked a table and plan on having an exceptionally fun evening at the Miss Garden Route & Klein Karoo Pageant” says Wendy Bezuidenhout, Manager of the Langeberg Mall in Mossel Bay. The Mall has purchased a table of 10 and plan on treating their staff and other role players on 25 September.“This is such a worthy cause where people get involve to better the life and circumstances of abused women and children. We ALL have to do our bit to take this project to higher levels” she added.
Apart from “putting her money where her mouth is” and buying a table to support the Safe Homes project, Ms Bezuidenhout and the Mall have embraced the Miss Garden Route & Klein Karoo project in more than one way.
Not only have they come to the party in a big way with sponsoring no less than eight make-over candidates from the CEF (Creating Effective Families) Safe House in Mossel Bay and Malibongwe Safe House in Oudtshoorn, they have also donated R10 000 cash in support of the project. Each candidate received vouchers for clothing. The latter was worn in the AFTER photo shoot. The women were allowed to keep the clothing.
“If we can get every business in town to buy a table, the marquee will definitely be too small and the coffers of the Safe Houses will bulge” she added and challenged all the retail businesses to get involve and buy tickets. “The best is that ALL the ticket money go to the Safe Homes and you are still guaranteed a fun evening filled with top artists, beautiful girls, unique designers, celebs as well as eats, juice, wine, magazines and gifts to take home. All of that for only R150. “Now if that is not a bargain in any terms, then I don’t know” she added.

Computicket is by die meeste Checkers beskikbaar

A new state of the art theatre, the Kalahari Restaurant and Theatres, will open its doors in George in the heart of the Garden Route in September. Theatre lovers in the Southern Cape are waiting in anticipation for this welcome addition especially as this 400 seater theatre will stage the latest productions as they come off the main circuit. This upmarket theatre will be catering for the more discern theatre goer and music lover.
Question Marks (Photo Denise Lloyd)
The concept behind the theatre is one of quality entertainment in a pleasant and warm environment. Apart from the theatre the complex will also house a separate bar, with an 11 metre serving surface and a 120 seater family restaurant with an outside deck. A special kiddies section has been added. A focal point of the restaurant will be the grand piano mounted on a circular stage in the restaurant section. This will double up as a cocktail bar and entertainment area.
The theatre will have tables and chairs positioned on different levels for better viewing. Food and beverages will be available from the restaurant and the bar.
The trial run at the restaurant and theatre will be on Saturday 4 September and the community has been invited to come and enjoy a FREE show on that evening. The theatre has already come up with a star studded line-up. Some of the productions will include the new Nataniël show, which is at present playing to full house capacities at the Emperor’s Palace, the Buddy Holly Show, Vulcano with On-Que and the premier of Steve Hofmeyr’s latest show Duisend en Een to name but a few.
Casper de Vries has also committed himself as well as Sharleen Surtie-Richards with her local Shirley Valentyn and theatre diva Sandra Prinsloo with her sell out performance of Die Naaimasjien. The Kalahari Restaurant Theatre will change the cultural atmosphere in the Garden Route – that is for sure.
Bookings for shows can be done at the Kalahari Theatre in the Old Game Centre in George or at Computicket.

A familiar face at the casino, Zade Corrie (left) from Wilderness, was one of the winners at Wednesday evening’s draw at the casino. According to her it has been “very long” since her ticket came up in a lucky draw. The other winners were Susan Hendricks from Mossel Bay and Alan Robinson (right) from Great Brak River . With them are MC Claude Pretorius and the dance duo sensation from George, Allister Alexander and Robyn Avontuur.
The foyer at the Garden Route Casino in Mossel Bay has been transformed into a gallery of colourful flags representing the different countries taking part in the 2010 Soccer World Cup. Together with the vuvuzelas and soccer balls visitors are immediately transformed into the spirtit of the new Time to Score promotion at the casino.

The area at the stage, where the virtual draws take palce, has been decorated with the Japan flag. This flag, with its red circle on a stark white background, is very appropriate seeing that the Japanese team will be staying at Fancourt in George and it is expected that their supporters will definitely pay the casino a few visits.
The Time to Score promotion will run till 25 August and participants have the opportunity to win a share of over R1,8 million in cash. Every Wednesday cash up to R55 500 can be won in the 13:30 and 21:00 draws. For more information on the promotion, visit the website on www.gardenroutecasino.co.za.

It is an art to blow the vuvuzela, but Anthony Valentyn from Oudtshoorn showed his delight with his winning on Wednesday by grabbing one of the colourful vuvuzelas on display in the Casino foyer. The fact that the sound produced was a far cry from what it should be, only added to the fun. Joining in the fun were first time winner Marie Meiring from Dana Bay and many time winner Avril du Toit. At the back is MC Claude Pretorius and in front the dance duo Robyn and Allister. (PHOTO: Denise Lloyd)
The Garden Route Casino in Mossel Bay has gone virtual. The first draw in the brand new Time to Score promotion on Wednesday was automatically done by the computer, without visitors having to enter their tickets into a bin. Visitors need to print only a single receipt with all their numbers listed. The lucky numbers are randomly picked and displayed on a flat screen for everyone to see. “This is fabulous. Now I can see first hand, because my hearing is not that good” one of the participants said after the first number was drawn.
In the spirit of the World Cup 2010 the Time to Score promotion is built around the soccer theme. In the foyer of the Casino visitors are welcomed by a display of vuvuzelas, soccer balls and flags from the participating countries. Even the now familiar dance duo Robyn Avontuur and Allister Alexander from George were dressed in soccer gear and danced to the tune of “Frankie”.
The Time to Score promotion will run till 25 August and participants have the opportunity to win a share of over R1,8 million in cash. Every Wednesday cash up to R55 500 can be won in the 13:30 and 21:00 draws.
